Okay my dear friends---I have to apologize for being away so long!
I have been doing a number of bigger design jobs
and we have had to wait for furniture and curtains and hardware
so I have just not posted.

Forgive me--- I will do better!!

This is the entry in a home that I have been working on.
This is the BEFORE.
Really it just had the table.

 AFTER
This entry has a high ceiling and a beautiful chandelier,
so I wanted to do something in the right scale
to fill the space and pull your eyes upward.

It can be as simple as a couple of lamps and some artwork on the wall.
The lantern in the middle is placed in a wreath.
I will give you some close ups as soon as I get back up to the house
to take some additional after photos of other rooms.

Have a wonderful Fall and Halloween weekend!

This lovely entry is in the home that we staged.

The cabinet that we used, was originally in the office.

I did not take a before picture (darn!) of this space, but it had an oversized buffet that was not the right fit for the entry.  This little cabinet fit perfectly and worked so well with the spring decor.

We simply added a couple of natural elements, as well as an arrangement on the wall of art, a wreath and a mirror. Which sometimes reflects the entry lighting!

Love how the butterflies, greenery and birds give it all a Spring feel!

My New Entry

It has been such fun for me to take all of these ideas and principles that I share with you and use them on a fresh new space!

This is the entry in my new home,  I am wanting to show you how you can use what you have already and how to add a few "new" items, to create a comfortable, cozy home.  I will explain!

This was the entry BEFORE
It was painted and I did lay the rug.  Both of those things can make such a difference.
Now the rug---I knew that I wanted a large rug to soften up all of the tile in the large entry, and as you know when you have a new place you just want new everything.  But it all starts to add up.

So I have been spending some time in the online classifieds in my area.  In my local area it is ksl.com.  Items are listed for sale and you can find almost anything.

I found this rug brand new for $70.00.  It was a color and style that I liked and it would go with items that I already had.

AFTER

The cabinet next to the front door I was able to get for $100.00. It did have some dings and scratches but nothing I could not fix up.

The ornamental iron I also found on ksl.com, it had been used in staging a house and I got it for $5.00.  I love how it has similar patterns and colors as the rug.

These are plaster reliefs hanging above the door.

Here they are hanging in my other home.

As you move around the entry there is a wall that I arranged with family photos.

I will talk more about arranging photos in another post.

This grandfather clock was my parents.  They bought it in Germany when my father was in the service and I was a baby. When they recently moved they let me keep it in my home.  I love having it in the entry.  It is a precious heirloom to me.

As you continue around there is a bathroom (which I will talk more about in another post) and then the entrance into the kitchen.

The door at the end of the hallway is a bedroom.  I am standing there taking the next photo towards you.

BEFORE
Here is a shot from the bedroom door through the entry and into the living room.

AFTER
What a difference it can make adding some of your own personality to your home!

I am hoping that as I share different photos and ideas that it helps you to create a more cozy and comfortable home for your family.

Warmest Regards,
Angela

I did a Studio 5 TV segment today:

6 Simple Steps to Create an Inviting Entry

1. Hang a Mirror
A mirror creates more light in the space and is nice to use as you come in and out of your home.

2. Have some kind of table.
If you have room, this is a great addition. It can be something you may not have considered (a dresser or an old sewing cabinet). If you have a small space and cannot fit a table, hang a shelf under a mirror, it works great as a place for your mail or your keys.

3. Put a lamp or a pair of lamps on the table.
It adds to the warm and inviting feel that you want to create.

4. Incorporate a natural element.
A plant or a vase of flowers works nicely!

5. If you have room---add a chair or two.
It is nice to have a place to sit while you are putting on your shoes.

6. Make it your style!
The entry is an introduction to your home.

Thank you so much
to Susan, Deanna, and Ann for letting us film in there homes!

I have noticed recently that many of my clients have
"old sewing tables"
around thier homes that are not being used.
So I decided to post a few before and afters of rooms
with and without the sewing tables.

These first two photos are in my own house in the entry.
I was given this sewing table by my mother-in-law and it has been in my entry for years!

Here is a BEFORE of a living room. As we went through the house we discovered an old sewing table in the basement storage room. It had been passed on to the homeowner and she was never sure what to do with it.
While doing the room we realized that we could use this sewing table behind the couch as a sofa table.

So in this AFTER you really do not even see the table but it plays a very important part of the room redesign.

It worked perfectly as a place to hold plants, a lamp and some candles.

Love it . . . when you can shop the house and find something unexpected!

BEFORE

AFTER
We used this sewing table in the entry and it created such a nice welcoming feel.

It was originally in the family room holding the TV.
Nice improvement, don't you think?

BEFORE

AFTER
We were wanting to create a nice reading area and needed a table.
In the backyard storage shed we found the old sewing table and it worked great as an accessory table between the two chairs.

BEFORE

AFTER
This area became a comfortable reading nook.
We pulled the chair from the bedroom and the sewing table was in the basement covered with old videos.

Look around your house . . . maybe there is an old sewing table that you can put to use!!

I wanted to show you the BEFORE and AFTER
of this entry way,
using items we found in the home.

BEFORE

AFTER

Wow, what a difference it can make,
adding a few cozy elements.

We found the dresser downstairs in storage --- it made a perfect place to put the lamp (lighting) and the basket of flowers (natural element) which were also in storage.

The ottoman was in the family room just because there was no where else for it.
We added a couple of pillows and a throw (fabric), that had coordinating colors from the art and the flowers.

It is now a welcoming entry!"

What a fun transformation.

In my last post I showed these photos and asked ---
"What makes these entry ways welcoming?"

Yes, lamps really do add life to a space and say
"Come on in."

Also see how we created a "Unit" a grouping of items:
the dresser,
the lamp,
books
the flowers
and a piece of art.

All of these entries have a lamp and a
natural element.

I love mirrors in an entry, they work great when you have a very small space and cannot put a table --- just hang a mirror and it feels welcoming.

Notice the lamp and the flowers.

If you have space it is nice to add a few more accessories and a chair with a pillow.

Also do you see how they are grouped --- a piece of art, a lamp, some flowers, books, a frame, a couple of glass vases.

If you have a little less space, use a small table with a lamp and a natural element.

See how the artwork is grouped with the table ---
It works. . . and it says . . .

"Welcome to my House"

A Welcoming Entry

I love a welcoming entry!

What is it, that creates that welcoming feeling?

See what each of these photos have in common ---
and I will post the answers in my next post.
