We just painted and redesigned this Family Room.

It needed to have something larger to put on this wall --- so we decided to take a number of smaller items and create a grouping.

Here is the BEFORE --- the wall that the grouping is now on
is where the entertainment  center is in this photo.

AFTER ---
We took out a number of items and decluttered. The paint really added some warmth.
See how nice the grouping works on the right wall.

It feels like a whole different room!

When you need to fill a larger space on a wall, it works to take a number of framed photos and artwork or other items of interest and place them together as a group rather than spread them across the wall.

With this group we added a wreath which is more 3 dimensional and adds some texture and interest.  We also found two metal frames that had similar design.

I layed them out on the floor and tried different arrangements.  Once I decided on the one I liked the best we just hung it on the wall!

Try GROUPINGS when you need to fill a larger space rather than placing one framed picture on the wall or trying to spread out a few that are just too small.

Just a quick BEFORE and AFTER

The Brown wall BEFORE

We changed it up a bit by adding a shelf.
Notice the same family photo, but now with a few more details and interesting items.

We created somewhat of a theme based around a family vacation and items that they brought home. The fabric really adds a homey feel. Also notice how we have different heights on the shelf. And see how just propping up some framed photos works very nicely.

Consider hanging your family photos in a grouping on the wall with a few other items.

BEFORE
This is a very usual way of hanging up family photos---lining them across the wall.

AFTER
But when we mix them in with the curio cabinet that also has some family photos and a larger wall clock, it creates a "unit" --- and a nice even weight to the wall.

Look around your house and see what creative ways you can display your family photos!

This wall had just been painted a beautiful warm gold, so the BEFORE was a blank wall. I wanted to show you how we created a very inviting arrangement of photos on the wall.

Notice these simple tips:

- All of the these frames are the same style (these are for 8x10 photos)

- The spacing between each of the frames is uniform -- (about 2 inches).

- We created a grouping by adding an ornamental iron rod and a wooden plaque at the top.

So as you look at the wall---you have a pleasing "unit" or grouping. Give this a try next time you are wanting to hang photos.

I am participating in Metamorphasis Monday at Between Naps on the Porch.
