I have had some requests for help with decorating book shelves.
Sometimes they just get full of too many things and it is time to "Freshen them up"!
This little bookshelf has only a few books, but see how it is accessorized with a few frames an oval clock, and a few round balls on a pedestal -- it is nice to add in some round elements to such a rectangular space.
Notice the plant and the wicker basket. It is always good to add a natural element or two.
On this shelf see how the books are arranged on the outside edges of the shelves and decorative elements are the focal point on the middle sections.
Framed pictures and vases work well along with a few books.
If you have alot of space and alot of books, sometimes it is nice to have a decorative accessory all alone on a shelf --- as well as arranged throughout the books.
See the pieces of art and a plate propped up on the back of the shelf with a few items in front.
It really adds interest to your book shelf.
In this room they took out some of the shelves
and hung larger pieces of art on the back.
See how many different ways you can decorate a bookshelf!
Now go and give it a try at your house!

It has been a few weeks since I posted but I left the country for a bit ---
I thought I would share with you a little of my trip.
Here are a few pictures from
The Philippines!
20 years ago I served as a Missionary for my Church---The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (The Mormons). http://www.mormon.org/
I had a chance to travel with a number of former missionaries and our mission president back to visit. I took my 14 year old daughter with me so she could experience a little culture from around the world.
This is a picture of my daughter and I in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental
As we traveled we stopped in Seoul, South Korea and picked up some fantastic fruit smoothies.
We stopped in Manila and saw the American Cemetary.
Here are a number of former missionaries that I served with, American and Filipino.
And our sweet mission president in the middle.
It was wonderful to renew old friendships.
We experienced a couple of fantasic rain storms.
I had to practice eating the authentic Filipino style using my fingers! My daughter loved that.
I tried the Pancit but it was not exactly as I remembered it---
This was a typical sari-sari store, they now offer cell phones
and minutes for sale.
Everyone has a cell phone!
A couple of darling boys at the market.
We had to visit the fish market.
Aren't they adorable.
The bananas and mangos are from heaven --- I could not get enough.
We attended a Cultural Celebration put on by 2000 youth from our church in the area.
They performed for our Prophet, Thomas S. Monson.
On the last day we were able to attend the dedication of the new Cebu City Temple.
It was a remarkable journey and one that I am so grateful to have shared with dear friends in the Philippines, former missionaries and especially my daughter, Tiffany.

We just painted and redesigned this Family Room.
It needed to have something larger to put on this wall --- so we decided to take a number of smaller items and create a grouping.
Here is the BEFORE --- the wall that the grouping is now on
is where the entertainment center is in this photo.
AFTER ---
We took out a number of items and decluttered. The paint really added some warmth.
See how nice the grouping works on the right wall.
It feels like a whole different room!
When you need to fill a larger space on a wall, it works to take a number of framed photos and artwork or other items of interest and place them together as a group rather than spread them across the wall.
With this group we added a wreath which is more 3 dimensional and adds some texture and interest. We also found two metal frames that had similar design.
I layed them out on the floor and tried different arrangements. Once I decided on the one I liked the best we just hung it on the wall!
Try GROUPINGS when you need to fill a larger space rather than placing one framed picture on the wall or trying to spread out a few that are just too small.

You can make your bathroom feel better by doing ONE thing ---
and it does not matter what style you have.
Add a Natural Element to your Bathroom!
It can be as simple as a vase of flowers.
This is the perfect time of year to pick a few blooms from your yard.
Or maybe you want to be a little more exotic and have some tropical touches.
See what a difference that little bit of pink makes.
This bathroom has a pot of flowers and a plant on the floor.
This is a very easy way to make your bathroom FEEL better.
See what you can do with yours!

My sweet husband who loves computers has changed out our operating system and I am having difficulties getting to my photos. These are a few that I could get---
This is a bathroom in my new home.
I took most of the decor items that I used in a bathroom in my last home and added them here. So I did not buy anything new.
I was really into framed leaf art, sometime I will show you more.
It was a rather natural theme.
But the wall color in my last house was gold.
There will soon be a nice warm brown on the walls here.
( I will post photos after the job is done).
Here is the BEFORE.
Bathrooms can feel so cold!
What helped to make the difference in the FEEL of this bathroom is:
A fabric shower curtain
(Fabric) --Softens the space and absorbs sound.
Towels (Fabric)
A pot of pussy willows
--Picked from my neighbors yard years ago ( Natural Element)
Little lamps
with candles in them ( Lighting)--Creates a warm cozy feeling.
See how by simply adding:
Lighting
Fabric
&
Natural elements
You can make any room in your house FEEL better!
Go and try it for yourself!

Okay, Life is wonderful! . . . and I have not forgotten you all. Here is a little post for today ---
One example of how to group some framed photos.
The spacing between the frames is about the same width, with the FAMILY centered at the top.
Try a grouping at your house!

Add a chair or two and you will be amazed at how much personality it creates.
This chair was found in the classifieds and was a perfect fit for the room.
Notice how these two chairs do not match but they look great with the other decor.
Do not feel like your chairs have to match --- this way you can add a thrift store chair with your expensive designer sofa, or your grandmas rocker with a favorite overstuffed chair.
The Key is to have similar colors or patterns that are going on throughout the space.
These bold blue chairs really add some personality to this room!
Here are a couple of dining chairs that work great in the entry.
Chairs can be expensive but these two I found in the classifieds --- the leather chair was $170.00 and the chair and ottoman $100.00. So keep your eyes open for these kind of deals and you can make your room much more versitile!
These two chairs match ... and don't they make a statement.
This room has a number of chairs and it creates a very different feeling than if you were to use a sofa and a love seat.
See how the ottomans do not match the color of the chair but it looks good.
Look at chairs a little differently and see what you might change up at your house!
I am joining the blog party at Between Naps on the Porch
go and take a look
