The furniture does not need to match --- we just want it to look good together.
The tables are wicker and the cabinet in the back has a worn dark finish. But they are tied together by the color of the accessories and pillows.

Notice the light stained coffee table and then the dark end table. Next to the ivory colored chair is a taller round metal table.
See how the pillow, the apples, and the flowers, tie in the color around the room and all of the different pieces feel good together.

We took the small wicker chair from the Family Room ---
It does not neccesarily "match" but it looks good.
When you put furniture together they do not have to all "match"---
infact it is better if they don't ---
But you want them to LOOK GOOD together.
it stayed in the very same spot.
We took twigs from the yard --- they are a little wild!
(We ran out of time to trim them up before the picture, but you get the idea.)
Also notice the green leather chair we found in the office.
It goes great in this room.
BLUE and GREEN
and tied in those colors around the space.
This corner BEFORE
Feel how cozy it is AFTER
A nice conversation area with some lighting and greenery.
Also --- see how having space around the furniture,
not having it right up against the wall --- gives the illusion of more space. BEFORE
AFTER -- This space is now inviting and comfortable.
Notice the pillow with the blue and green,
it matches the pillow on the green leather chair. In this BEFORE the wall was full ---
without a focal point to rest your eye. In this AFTER shot the black cabinet becomes a very nice focal point, and feels really good next to the green wall.
These two little framed pieces were in the family room on the mantle.
The little tree was in the entry way.
It can be like a treasure hunt---
Now go find treasure at your house!

with using just what is in that home already.

Notice the lamps, one came from a bedroom the other from the basement. The bowl of apples came from the kitchen table --- don't they look great here!
The vase of flowers was in the living room.
And the coffee table was by the front door --- a chest to hold all of the winter stuff.
We just repurposed it
and it is a great addition to the family room.
Look around your space and see what you could use too!
Take the dust covers off,
It evokes images of cozying up on the couch---

What 3 design principles, that we have talked about

So what did you figure out?
Lighting:
Each room has a lamp.
Fabric:
Each room has pillows, an extra throw or curtains.
Natural Elements:
Each bedroom has a vase with flowers.
As you learn these design principles you will be able to look at a room differently than you did before --- and see what is there and what is missing.
Isn't that fun!
I love it!

In this BEFORE the sofa is against the wall---
wall is freed up to create a focal point.
